    Having bought a Thrustmaster SF1000 very recently, I fell head over heels trying to configure the 25 buttons on my steering wheel to individual commands on F1 22. Only half the buttons were configurable, the other half were duplicates and the thumbwheels on either side were just as useless. I find it quite incredible that in 2023, after hundreds of Microsoft, Reedit and Thrustmaster/Fanatec forums have been posted asking for this problem to be fixed, Microsoft still hasn't made a public statement announcing that they're working on it, knowing that the new Forza Motorsport 8 or F1 23 are coming out soon. I'd really appreciate a response from someone at Microsoft so that me and all the other sim racers can take advantage of all the options of our expensive steering wheels.

    The peripheral maker

    must work with the game developers to implement their advanced features.

    Ask them why they won't do this. We don't have those answers.

    Can you please explain this, this is directly from fanatec themselves, clearly a Microsoft issue.

    As stated, developers can enable all of this if they choose to

    It is up to peripheral makers to make all the features of the wheels compatible with their individual titles, and to work with developers to implement their drivers

    Microsoft cannot change their games for them.

    This is my point, Microsoft are limiting 3rd party peripheral from anything more than that of an Xbox controller, so why can't Microsoft just do as I explained and just open it up like a Keyboard where everything can be mapped to individual buttons as all wheels have a different amount of buttons.

    Playstation does things their own way

    This has been the case since the 360 days, for example Harmonix had to patch Rock Band 3 to allow you to use the lips wireless mics

    All peripheral drivers are contained within the protected game module, which Microsoft had no ability to ch age if they don't own the game.

    Developers have access to all the same kinds of tools as they do on PlayStation. It's up to them to use them.

    again your wheel is on the list of supported wheels so you need to ask for developer why they are taking advantage of all the abilities that it has
    As far as I know PlayStation them selves have allowed the use of "Game Specific Buttons" to be used on steering wheels which allows the developers to take advantage of more buttons on the steering wheels, where xbox is limited to exactly what is on the game pads (A,B,X,Y..ect..)

    The only thing Microsoft has to do is read a steering wheel the exact same way it does a keyboard and have each individual button be its own thing the same way it does on PC and everything would be fine on the xbox for sim racers, it's frustrating when I have 19 buttons on my wheel and 6 of them are assigned to the bumper buttons alone.

    Microsoft limits no one

    Because games don't operated at the system level. They are their own protected virtual machines. All drivers for all devices, including the base Xbox pad must be included in that VM

    Again, you need to ask your peripheral makers to work with developers to implement their devices. No one can do this for them.

    Fanatec for whatever reason does not want to do this. I have Flight Simulator peripherals with extensive additional buttons I assure you it's possible.
