Yes, in order to play with other people both of you need to have the same minecraft version.

Please try this to see if you're able to see the update:

First uninstall actual minecraft launcher.
**Backup your words if necessary, is always good to do a backup

Then Open Settings, click Update and Security and then Windows Update;

Click Check for Updates;

Click the Download and Install Now option, if available (Install optional updates as well)

Also, check the Microsoft Store for any updates on the Xbox apps and its services and update everything too.

Now, sign out from your account on both Xbox app and Microsoft Store and do this:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Go to windows settings > apps > search for Xbox app > click on it and select advanced options.

After that, click repair and then reset

Finally do this:

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Windows + R key.

Step 2: Input WSReset.exe in the Run window and click OK.

Step 3: Then a command prompt window will appear. After a few seconds, Windows Store will open.

Sign in again on both Microsoft store and Xbox app with your account, install minecraft launcher and check

I'm on pc bedrock, on 1.19.20 and my Xbox friend is on 1.19.21, and it's not allowing my friend to join my world. We haven't played in a couple of months but when we did this never happened. I could not find any way to update the version but I did do a restart on my pc and on the Xbox.

Minecraft has a lot of different versions, if you or your friend have Minecraft beta or Minecraft Review this will be a result. It's due to your friend having a newer version of Minecraft. Your friend may have Minecraft Beta or Review. He would need to download the current public version of Minecraft.

Steps for your Friend.

Open the Xbox Insider Hub app and unenroll from the beta. Uninstall Minecraft. Hard reset the Xbox console by holding down the power button until the console turns off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn the console back on. Reinstall Minecraft from the Ready to Install section of Games & Apps.

Trying to connect to a realm I get the message...

"Could not connect: Outdated server!

Realms Update Pending Within 48 Hours"

Checking the Queue shows no updates available. Can we force the Update?
