    Xbox remote disconnecting

I have a hunch my Xbox remote and my sea gate external drive are interfering with each other. Whenever I reconnect my external drive it disconnects my remote no matter what I do it won’t connect I have to power cycle my console. Then finally my remote will connect, but the external drive won’t pop up in my storage devices. So if I do everything to get the Xbox to recognize my external device the minute I restart the Xbox and the external drive is finally recognized my remote goes nuts and disconnects.

    :)

is there anything in the way between the controller and the Xbox?

sometimes things like furniture can block the signal.

do you have a lot of wi-fi or Bluetooth devices that could be causing interference?

    Hi JacquesReynecke,

A power cycle can restart your Xbox One console completely, which is helpful for fixing issues on your console and your controller. To power cycle your console:
    1. Hold the Xbox button on the front of your Xbox One console for about 10 seconds to turn off your
    console.

    2. Press the Xbox button on the console
    to turn it on.

    3. Try your controller and see if this fixes your connection problem.

If you have another controller, try it on your console and see if the disconnection issue is fixed?

If the second controller functions normally, your original controller needs to be replaced. But If both controllers share the same issue, your console needs to be serviced.
If this happen you'll need to contact xbox support here:

    Hope this help

To use external storage with Xbox games and apps, your hard drive must:

    • Hold 128 GB or more
    • Connect via USB 3.0/3.1
When you first connect, Xbox prompts you to format your device. You can use it for Xbox games and apps, or for personal media such as pictures, music, and video. (Xbox will treat devices that don’t meet the above requirements as media storage.)

Note Formatting a USB drive will erase all data contained on it.

Once your device has been formatted and you’ve entered a custom drive name, you’ll be asked if you intend on using the external drive primarily with that specific console or if you intend to use the drive with multiple consoles.

    • Choosing to use the drive primarily on a specific console enables the drive to check for updates automatically.
    • Choosing to use the drive on multiple consoles disables the external drive’s ability to automatically update your games and apps. However, you can still manually update the games from My games & apps.
To change this behavior at any time, go to My games & apps > Manage > Storage devices, select the device you wish to change, press the A button , and toggle to the setup that works best for you.

If your Xbox doesn’t recognize your external drive, go to:

Troubleshoot external storage detection on Xbox

If you cancel formatting when you connect a storage device, you can set it up later:

    1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, and then select Profile & system > Settings > System > Storage.
    2. Select your device, and then select Format.

Solution 1: Make sure you’ve installed any recent updates to Xbox

It’s possible that there were recent updates to your Xbox console and that you need to manually update your system so that it detects your external storage. To update:

    1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide, and then select Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates.
    2. If you see Update available, there’s an update you need to install.
    3. After you’re done installing the update, go back to Settings and select System > Storage devices. See if your device appears in the list.
If your storage device still doesn’t appear, or if there were no pending updates, try the next solution.

Solution 2: Adjust the power management for storage if you’re in Sleep mode

Check your power settings. If you’re in Sleep mode:

    1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
    2. Select Profile & system > Settings > General > Power options.
    3. Confirm that your power mode is set to Sleep.
    4. Unselect the option When Xbox is off, turn off storage.
    5. Restart your Xbox, and then go back to Settings and select System > Storage to see if your device now appears in the list.
Solution 3: Other things to try

If your Xbox still isn’t detecting your external storage device:

    • Remove and then reconnect the storage device.
    • Connect the device to a different USB port on the console.
    • Power cycle your console:
      1. Press the Xbox button  on the front of the console for about 10 seconds.
      2. Turn on the console again, and then see if it detects the external drive.
    • Check the website of your external storage device’s manufacturer for additional support.

Let us know the result and we will get back to you as soon as we can. We may recommend further troubleshooting steps once we have received your answers to the above questions.
